A teen from DeKalb was given twenty years in jail for killing someone in Boulder Hill in 2022.
Brian Bell Jr., who is 18 years old, admitted that he killed Ashton Laatz, who is also 18 years old, by killing him on December 22, 2022.
The State’s Attorney’s Office for Kendall County says Bell shot Laatz while the two were in a car near Circle Drive East.
Prosecutors say the killing happened during a drug-related theft. There were two more teens in the car with them.
During a fight, Laatz was shot in the thigh. Bell and the two teens then got out of the car. Laatz tried to drive off, but one of the teens is said to have fired at the car, which then crashed. Laatz later died in the hospital from his wounds.
Police quickly found the two teens who were involved, and Bell was charged a few months later.
Bell will serve the whole twenty-year sentence, and then he will have to go through three years of parole.
