Grand Forks, ND – A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of Minnesota and North Dakota on Friday, with snow and strong winds expected to make travel hazardous.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an advisory that will last from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will affect northwest Minnesota as well as northeast and southeast North Dakota.
Forecasters predict up to one inch of snow accumulation, with winds gusting up to 55 mph. These conditions, combined with blowing snow, may result in reduced visibility.
The NWS warned of slippery roads, especially during Friday morning and evening commutes. High winds can also damage trees and power lines, posing additional risks.
Travelers are advised to slow down and exercise caution, particularly in areas prone to blowing snow.
Before heading out, emergency officials recommend calling 511 or using state transportation apps to check road conditions.
The advisory covers several counties, including Grand Forks, Traill, and Pembina in North Dakota, and Polk, Clay, and Marshall in Minnesota.
