Who does Texas A&M miss from the SEC schedule?
Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
The Aggies miss Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Tennessee; it doesn’t get much better than that, especially given that Texas is now a regular on the schedule.
Vanderbilt may be better, but you’d still rather have it on your SEC schedule. Assume Oklahoma and Kentucky will be stronger – A&M should have the Sooners on their schedule, so there’s no reason to grumble about missing them.
Texas A&M football schedule, the good and the bad
The Good: There’s only one road game until October 18th. It’s a huge blow to Notre Dame, but if they win at home, they’ll be at least 5-1. As difficult as the second half is, there is a much-needed, well-timed week off on November 1st, and the Samford scrimmage before Texas is mandatory. The Aggies only leave the state once each November.
The Bad: The wins better pile up quickly since the second half of the campaign might be tough. That road game at Notre Dame is exacerbated by SEC away games at LSU, Texas, and Missouri, as well as Arkansas, which will be problematic.
With no home games from mid-October to mid-November, the team must focus completely during the dog days.
Texas A&M Football Schedule: Best and worst case scenarios
Best case scenario: The Aggies defeat Notre Dame. That is not to say that anything in the SEC is guaranteed, but they take care of the Irish on their route to a 6-0 record. They win two of three second-half road games, including one versus Arkansas, and continue to perform well. And, of course, defeats Texas in Austin.
Worst-case scenario: The Aggies lose to Notre Dame, are tripped up by Auburn and/or Florida, and then the road misery sets in. They lose at LSU and Missouri, and they are well out of the SEC title race before traveling to Texas. Realistically, there is no reason to be concerned about bowling, but A&M needs to beat Samford to secure the win.
Season Prediction: (January 29) The Aggies start 4-2, falling to Notre Dame and dropping one of their home games to Auburn or Florida, but then rebound to defeat Arkansas.
There are just too many 50/50 games that go awry, but this is a solid season that will result in a good bowl slot but not the CFP or SEC Championship.
The Season Prediction will be revised multiple times over the offseason.
