Who does Kentucky miss from the SEC schedule?
Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas A&M
Missing Mississippi State isn’t ideal, and you’d prefer play Arkansas than a number of teams Kentucky must face, but there’s really nothing to complain about.
It’s always a relief not to have to play Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, or Texas A&M, and not having to deal with Missouri this year is especially beneficial. That indicates…
Kentucky football schedule: the good and bad
The Good: While Vanderbilt is better overall, you’d rather have it on the schedule than, say, Oklahoma.
UK has a lot of tough games, but Texas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Florida all have to come to Lexington.
There are only two away games left before November, and the final kick is relatively impressive. Although Auburn and Florida are expected to improve, the following five games are all winnable, including a trip to South Carolina.
The Bad: The midsection is a major issue.
Starting the season against Toledo is not as easy as Wildcat fans may believe, and beating Ole Miss at home is a necessary. Yes, Texas and Tennessee are playing at home, but they are also coming off a game against Georgia.
If you get stuck in a rut, the trip to Auburn at the start of November may be a game changer.
Kentucky Football Schedule: Best and worst-case scenarios.
Best-case scenario: Kentucky defeats Ole Miss again. It pulls it off, stuns South Carolina with a 4-0 start, and, realistically, wins at least one game against Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee.
Then comes the run, with the UK going 4-1 in November.
Worst-case scenario: A horrible start, a bad middle, and a rough finale.
Kentucky takes an opening-day left hook from a scary Toledo squad, loses to Ole Miss, and that’s all. There’s nothing going on in a 0-3 October, and dropping the rivalry game against Louisville only makes the fan base crazier.
Season Prediction: (January 30) Kentucky should improve, but it will struggle to find its stride. It’ll go 3-1 through the first four games, lose at Georgia, and then fall to Texas and Tennessee in October. However, it will become bowl eligible if it improves its record in November and wins its sixth game at Vanderbilt.
The Season Prediction will be revised multiple times over the offseason.
