Who does Mississippi State miss from the SEC schedule?
Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Vanderbilt
It would have been nice to skip Texas, Tennessee, and Texas A&M, but no Alabama or Georgia, so no complaints.
Missing Auburn, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt is not a good thing, at least until things improve. All SEC games are tough, but those three on the schedule would have been ideal. Missing LSU and Oklahoma is excellent, and not having to face South Carolina should be beneficial.
Mississippi State football schedule: the good and bad
The Good: There aren’t two straight road games. At the very least, there aren’t two consecutive road games with a week off in between; there’s an open date between trips to Texas A&M and Florida.
The team does not play outside of Mississippi until October and travels only once until October 18. Playing Arizona State, Tennessee, Texas, Georgia, and Ole Miss isn’t ideal, but at least they all have to go to Starkville.
The Bad: Yes… Arizona State, Tennessee, Texas, and Georgia. Mississippi State has to face four College Football Playoff teams.
None of these are guaranteed, and the Bulldogs will be underdogs against Texas A&M, Florida, Arkansas, and Missouri. It will take a fight just to get close to six wins.
There are no guaranteed wins in the SEC.
Mississippi State Football Schedule: Best and worst-case scenarios.
Best Case Scenario: Mississippi State makes a big early statement by defeating Arizona State on the road to a 4-0 start, setting up a big game versus Tennessee.
Realistically, it’ll be a difficult road, but there will be an upset at home, one or two at Florida or Arkansas, and, of course, a win against Ole Miss to round up the regular season.
Worst-case scenario: The Bulldogs lose to Arizona State and struggle to get through close games. They’re 3-2 heading into October, and then there’s no hope.
They lose all four SEC road games, fail to win any conference road games, and…
Season Prediction (Jan. 30): Mississippi State will win something.
This could be one of the most brutally tough home slates anyone has ever faced, and it will be rough.
The team will improve, and a win or two here and there should be enough to reach to five victories before facing Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl, but the team will be far superior to its losing record.
The Season Prediction will be revised multiple times over the offseason.
