The Social Security disability benefits program may change over time. If you or a loved one were familiar with it when you first got a payment, do not expect it to stay the same.
Like all other businesses, the Social Security Administration (SSA) can be affected by changes in technology and how things are done. Most of all the American one.
Otherwise, we would still be writing checks and going to the bank for your monthly payments (I say “still fully” because there are times when SSA lets people use such old-fashioned payment methods).
Martin O’Malley has been the commissioner of Social Security since December 20, 2023.
He is in charge of all financial and insurance programs, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), retirement, widow, and disability insurance (RSDI), and he is also in charge of all financial and insurance programs.
Read on to learn how his acts have changed all of your Social Security disability benefits and how this may affect your daily life as an SSDI recipient.
What are the challenges that the Social Security Disability Benefits has faced during this year?
All of the Social Security administrations say in their yearly reports that the main problem with disability payments is that the system as a whole is not financially stable.
Just like with old age pensions, the main source of funding for this system of benefits is the money that people earn and pay into Social Security every month. People are leaving the workforce at a faster and faster rate as the population drops.
As a result, there is less money in the SSDI insurance fund than what is needed to pay Social Security disability payments.
The Social Security Administration has found that by 2035, the agency will not have enough money to cover all of its payouts. This means that the government will have to provide more money.
This limited budget has also been reflected in the SSA’s operating budget for disability payments. The SSA’s share of yearly benefits has dropped from 1.2% in 2018 to a very low 0.94% now.

This makes it hard to keep up with the staff and offices across the country needed to provide the level of service that would make sure that the poorest Americans get their Social Security Disability benefits on time.
So, it is not a surprise that the number of pending disability claims has gone up by 94%. The Social Security Administration now has a 60% process backlog, which hurts its image.
What measures has Mr. O’Malley implemented to leverage the change in times and streamline his office?
When this problem came up, Mr. O’Malley put all of his energy into making customer service better and looking into every way he could make the Social Security Disability Benefits work better by:
- Using SSA’s teams to temporarily supply hands to help DDS (Disability Determination Process) offices.
- Optimizing the cross-office partnership between DDS offices.
- Increasing the portfolio of consultants to improve the accuracy and opportunity of the case reviews to determine eligibility.
- Reducing the required work history documentation (also called “lookback). So, it would be easier and faster for Americans to apply.
- Streamlining the decision-making process of the DDS offices by opening the possibility of taking into account and using previous medical decisions for other SSA programs to make a valid judgment regarding the applicant’s condition instead of requiring a separate evaluation.
- Encouraging the use of the IMAGEN platform to speed up the case analysis for Social Security Disability Benefits, increasing the percentage of cases managed through this application by 100%.
As a direct result of those efforts, 92% of the oldest cases were processed, and the number of claims dropped by 70,000. This shows that Social Security Disability Benefits are offering better service. Not only will new people who want to get SSDI benefits be affected by this change, but so will current members who call the program every day.
Stop sending other countries money that should go to American citizens first, THEN HELP other countries. Charity begins at home, or haven’t you people heard? If we’re so”rich” then we should be able to help our own as well as others.
