Every month, households across the United States receive their Social Security retirement benefits. However, they only go to eligible households, as eligibility can change from month to month.
Everything is dependent on your personal circumstances, so it is critical to review the full list of conditions.
So, whether it’s a disability payment or a retirement benefit, the important thing is that the money is available throughout the month, regardless of when we collect the check.
In this manner, it is possible to receive a benefit every month, but it is also possible to stop receiving the check in certain circumstances.
If the payment is for old-age retirement and it has already been accepted, Social Security should send us the check in April without any problems in most cases. But if the payment is for disability, we may not receive it for various reasons.
Mandatory requirements for Social Security in April 2025
Certain requirements must be met in order to receive a monthly retirement check. In this regard, in order to apply for a payment, we must satisfy two conditions:
- Be at least 62 years old.
- Have worked a minimum of 10 years.
This is for determining retirement payments based on age. Remember that if we don’t meet these requirements, we won’t be able to request our Social Security retirement payment in April.
If our payment has already been accepted, we do not need to worry about it; however, we must consider other factors.

The Social Security Administration may stop sending us the payment in April 2025 if:
- We go to prison.
- We have debts.
So both aspects are also important and we must take them into account.
However, in the case of having a check for Disability, things change a bit. In this case, we could lose the benefit for other different reasons:
- No longer having a disability.
- Going back to work.
So, if we return to work, the Administration will recognize that we no longer require the Disability payment, and if a doctor confirms that our disability no longer exists.
