ST. CHARLES, Mo. — A woman was shot in the neck early Saturday morning in a parking lot near the Ameristar Casino in St. Charles. She is now fighting for her life.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that could have killed her, and the police report says she was rushed into emergency surgery. The police said her state was very bad.
The shooting call came in from the casino, and officers from the St. Charles Police Department went there. Police say that when they arrived, they found a 27-year-old woman with a bullet wound in her neck. The woman told the police that her 50-year-old St. Louis boyfriend had shot her.
The police in St. Charles said that Calvin Koong was charged with Domestic Assault, theft, and Armed Criminal Action. A $500,000 bond was put on him.
During the first investigation, police got a copy of the casino’s security video of what happened.
Police say the video shows the woman sitting in the driver’s seat of Koong’s car on the second level of the parking lot. That is when the door for the driver opened.
Based on the video, police say Koong forced the woman back into the car, where they fought again.
Police also said that the video showed the woman trying to get away, finally getting out of the car and collapsing next to it. People nearby helped her until emergency services came.
Police said Koong ran away on foot but was stopped by a concrete wall in the garage.
An officer in charge of security at the casino told cops that he saw the suspect trying to get away in the parking garage.
The security guard told the police that he heard him say, “I shot her.” “I shot her.”
Police said that when they talked to Koong at the scene, he admitted to killing the woman in front of them, too.
