A 17-year-old boy is being tried on Monday for killing a 14-year-old boy 15 times.
Harges, who was 14 years old, was shot and killed on November 5 of last year.
“You would have loved him if you had met my child,” Braylon’s mother, Seaerra LeFlore, said. “You would really love him, you would have.”
LeFlore said Braylon wanted to play football and go to college.
Steven Sopko, Jr., 17, was charged with Harges’ murder in March of this year. He would have been 16 years old at the time of the death. At that time, his bond was set at $1 million.
The hearing for Sopko will start on Monday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.
LeFlore thinks that Sopko’s trial will help her figure out what happened when her son died.
“I have rough hard nights since this occurred and here we go revisiting the trauma all over again,” he said. “That makes it hard for me.”
In this case, Sopko will be tried as an adult.
“Yes, I know he is a kid; I lost a kid.” “Yes, I know that,” LeFlore said. “My child will never come back to this world. I know he is only a kid, but when your kids are acting like adults, they should be treated like adults.”
LeFlore raised a teenager and is now spreading the word about how important it is to be active in your child’s life.
She hopes that by telling the story of her son, no other family will have to go through the same pain.
“Be honest with your kids.” He also told the kids, “Be honest with your parents, because this could be you one day.” “One day, this is going to be your parents crying as they try to get justice for you.”
