No one plans for a situation to arise where they will not be able to do their job as they used to. Being able to get disability benefits at that point might keep you from falling into poverty.
In 1956, the Social Security Administration (SSA) set up the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program to help people who were in trouble. It is no secret that dealing with something this big will take a lot of patience.
People may have more money problems than they thought they would because you have to think about not only the drop in your expected income but also the higher medical costs and other help that, depending on your condition, will be needed to make your life easier.
Because of this, you should not think about applying for Social Security Disability Insurance and getting disability payments every month. If you are already getting them, though, you should know when and how much you can expect to get.
Not many people are so well-organized that they know exactly when they will be paid.
This could hurt them because if there is a delay or an error, they will not be able to find out about it fast enough to avoid big problems. To that end, it is important that you read this article to learn how the SSA plans your payments.
How does SSA plan the disability benefit payments?
To begin, let us separate disabled people into groups based on the program they take part in. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and insurance for disable people.
These people will get paid on the first of every month, or the third if they started getting paid before May 1997.
The same thing will happen to people who get disability insurance, especially if they started getting benefits before May 1997. They will get paid on the third of every month.
People who started getting SSDI payments after May 1997 will get them between the second and fourth Wednesday of every month, depending on when they were born.
There is a formal payment schedule that you are able to look at, but we will give you the exact dates for this month.
When are you going to be paid the disability benefit payments?
As was said before, the following groups of disability benefit payments are set to happen once a week. So, here’s what you can expect from your Social Security check every Wednesday:
- Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of the month will receive their benefits on Wednesday, November 13th.
- If the beneficiary’s birth date falls between the 11th and 20th of the month, the date is Wednesday, November 20th.
- On Wednesday, November 27th, the beneficiary’s birth date falls between the 21st and 31st of the month.
How big will be the next disability benefit payments?
Based on how much Social Security tax you have paid since you started working, your disability benefits are directly linked to how much you worked before you were accepted into the program.
In October 2024, SSA released new statistics that show the average payout is $697.50. This should give you an idea. However, it is a little higher for people under 18 ($803.97) and a little lower for people over 65 ($576.49).
How can you be a recipient of disability benefit payments?
The first requirement is to be told by a doctor that you are disabled or blind. You can go to a Social Security office or start the process on the Social Security website with this document and proof of work history.
You must have paid Social Security taxes for at least 5 of the last 10 years. The Social Security Administration website has more information on the exceptions to this rule.
