It was not a surprise that 27-year-old Jake Paul beat 58-year-old Mike Tyson in the much-anticipated Netflix fight. Paul beat Tyson by unanimous decision.
He hit him more than twice as many times as Tyson hit him. Tyson was past his best, and everyone who saw him could tell. He took a long time to get out of his corner and stood still in the middle of the ring, not being able to get close to Paul.
People who paid close attention also saw other patterns, like how Tyson liked to bite his glove during the fight. Even though it is strange, Tyson has done strange things before. Let me quickly explain.
Mike Tyson has bitten his gloves before
While close-up footage of Mike Tyson during his heyday is hard to come by, we can go back to his exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020 for some evidence.
In the video, Tyson can be seen biting his left hand glove, just like he did against Paul.
Why does Tyson bite his gloves?
Tyson might be doing this to keep his mouthguard in place, but his answer to Ariel Helwani’s question after the match is much more entertaining.
Of course, this is about the famous time Tyson bit Evander Holyfield in the ear during their second fight in 1997. Everyone laughed, but Holyfield probably felt bad.
Tyson’s joke answer might be true after all, even though it sounds crazy. Tyson might like to put soft, fleshy things that look like ears in his mouth and bite down on them.
From what he said after the fight, it sounds like fighters do not always think straight. People do things without realizing it, so Tyson’s habit of biting his glove might have been just something he does all the time.
