The Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn is always a big deal, but this year it is even bigger for both teams than usual, especially after last year’s thrilling game.

Everything about college football changed when Jalen Milroe threw a touchdown pass. Florida State is in the College Football Playoff, and he does not hit that.

This time, Auburn needs to pull this off.

Hugh Freeze and the Tigers have had a terrible season, but just when things looked like they were going to end, they did. With a win over Alabama, AU would be able to go to a bowl game after beating Texas A&M 43–41.

Alabama had a terrible game last week when they lost 34–3 to Oklahoma. Some people think this Alabama team deserves to be in the running for the CFP. That was bad, but if Kalen DeBoer’s team does not beat the rival, he will have a really, really hard year off.

Why Auburn Will Win

The run defense should be able to stuff the Tide.

The Alabama ground game under DeBoer is better than what the Washington rushing attack was under his watch last season, but it’s way too hit-or-miss. It destroyed LSU and ripped through Missouri, but didn’t go anywhere against Oklahoma and fell flat against Auburn.

The passing game is fun, and the defense is fine, but when Alabama runs for 100 yards or more it’s 8-0, and it’s 0-3 when running for fewer.

Auburn has held six teams to under 100 yards rushing this year. Do that, and everything else should fall into place.

The pass game was great. The offense has been good all season, but it really clicked when they got close to 470 yards. They are also 4-0 when they get close to or more than 500 yards.

OK’s offense did not really blow Alabama out, but their ground game was great. But the Sooners could only muster 325 yards of offense in the whole game. The defense and, yes, the offensive line’s push won it.

A lot of teams came close to beating Alabama by 470 yards, but how many teams came close by 50 yards? Georgia, and it went over 500.

This is Auburn vs. Alabama. Strange things will happen that do not make sense, and dramatic things will happen in some way. But Auburn is not even close to 500 yards yet.

Still, the first half will be more of a shootout than you might think. The second half, though, the Tide D will lock down.
