Rats and mice are popular in big cities in the U.S., especially the biggest ones. These cities are great for them because they have lots of food and trash.
Terminix, a nationwide termination service, says that rats and mice like living in towns because they can easily get food and clean up after themselves. Even though they are small, they quickly become a problem because they can hurt people’s health and damage a lot of property.
Due to the damage, Terminix checked to see which of its 300 branches sent out the most rat control services in 2023.
Top rodent-infested cities in the US
In 2023, New York City was the city that used rat control services the most often out of the 50 cities that needed the most help in given areas. Second place went to the San Francisco Bay Area, and third place went to Los Angeles. The 12th place went to the Sacramento metro area.

The pest control business says that rats and mice are hard to avoid in cities because most rodents are drawn to places with lots of people, easy access to food, and mild weather.

Rodent and mouse trap experts at Tomcat say that droppings, the smell of urine, gnawed holes and marks, and scampering sounds are all typical signs that a rodent is in your home.
