According to a report, authorities discovered that a Wisconsin father who was initially believed to have drowned in a kayaking accident actually faked his death and fled to Europe, abandoning his family to start a new life.
Ryan Borgwardt went kayaking at Green Lake, Wisconsin, on August 12 and did not come back. His family reported him missing that same day.
Upper Michigans Source reported that police and volunteers from the area began a full-scale search and found his overturned kayak, life jacket, and other personal items that made them think he had drowned.
As the search went on, police found a clue in early October: Borgwardt’s name had been put on a list by Canadian police the day after he went missing.
An in-depth look at his digital footprint showed that Borgwardt had carefully planned his disappearance and gotten a new passport too. He had also moved money to banks in other countries and was talking to a woman in another country.
When the authorities found out that Borgwardt was lying, they stopped the search in Green Lake.
The sheriff of the area told Borgwardt in public that he should talk to his family, pointing out how hard it has been on his wife and three kids since they thought he was dead.
As of right now, Borgwardt has not been found and has not talked to authorities or his family.
