The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will not receive their payments on March 1, 2025, because the day falls on a Saturday.
Instead, the deposit will be moved forward to Friday, February 28. This adjustment ensures that funds arrive on time, regardless of the weekend.
SSI is a federal program that helps people who are low-income, over 65, disabled, or blind. It does not require a previous work history and instead assesses the beneficiary’s current financial situation. Its purpose is to meet basic needs such as food and shelter, with payments generally made on the first of each month.
Am I missing an SSI payment?
Well, not really. This date change does not imply a loss of funds. The SSA keeps an annual calendar of 12 payments, adjusting the dates when day 1 falls on a weekend or holiday. Thus, beneficiaries will receive all of their benefits for 2025, but on a different day than usual.
According to SSA policy, if the first of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, payment is made on the previous business day. In the case of March 2025, the advance to February 28 addresses this rule, avoiding disruptions in access to funds on Saturday, March 1.
The payment schedule for 2025 includes a number of adjustments. For example, the January payment was made on December 31, 2024, due to the January 1 holiday.

February was deposited on January 31, and February 1 is a Saturday. April, on the other hand, will remain on the 1st because it falls on a Tuesday, with no need for changes.
These are routine adjustments that have no effect on the total benefit amount. This measure is implemented by SSA to ensure that payments arrive on time, particularly during months with non-business days that may cause direct deposits or check delivery by mail to be delayed.
What to do if you do not receive your SSI payment
If the SSI payment has not arrived in the account by February 28, 2025, the SSA recommends waiting three business days before acting. This allows any processing delays to be resolved. After that period, beneficiaries can contact the agency to enquire about the status of their deposit.
The toll-free number 1-800-772-1213 is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. local time. A representative will be able to confirm whether the March payment, advanced to February, was correctly processed or if there was an error.
Adjusted SSI amounts for 2025
In 2025, SSI amounts will increase by 2.5% due to the cost of living adjustment (COLA), which is intended to offset the effects of inflation. The maximum monthly amounts are $967 for single people, $1,450 for couples applying together, and an additional $484 for those who require assistance with basic daily activities.
