What is new since Sunday night, when we last did the bowl predictions?
It is kind of like a trickle-down effect. The College Football Playoff 12 was pretty much set, at least in terms of the teams that win their conference championships and the teams that are likely to make the tournament. This caused some changes. But there was something even bigger, at least when it came to bowl projections.
They are coming.
On December 1, USF will play San Jose State in the Hawaii Bowl. In December 1, South Alabama will play Western Michigan in the Salute to Veterans Bowl.
These two news stories did two things. First, it messed up the bowl affiliations and tie-ins right away when an AAC team went to the Hawaii Bowl. Then, it messed up the puzzle when a bunch of Group of Five teams came in.
Finally, Memphis and West Virginia were picked to play in the Scooters’s Coffee Frisco Bowl, which was a surprise. The bowl made the game more exciting.
To put it all back together, some work had to be done.
