The SSA has confirmed that a new payment will be sent to the bank accounts of retired workers, survivors, and disabled Americans born between January 1st and October 10th of any month and who received their first check after May 1997.
This is good news for some Social Security recipients. The SSA will send you a payment throughout the day if you meet these requirements. Keep in mind that the 3.2% COLA increase from 2024 will still be part of this payment, even though the new boost will not start until January.
The SSA has confirmed a new check for those who receive OASDI benefits
More than 72 million Americans who are eligible for OASDI or Supplemental Security Income get money from the Social Security Administration (SSA) every month.
The SSA set up a monthly payment schedule so all beneficiaries would know when their checks would arrive. This was done because there are many programs and payments to make. Based on this plan, there are four more payments this month, which are listed below:
- December 11th (2nd Wednesday):Ā OASDI beneficiaries who were born between the 1st and the 10thĀ
- December 18th (3rd Wednesday):Ā OASDI beneficiaries who were born between the 11th and the 20thĀ Ā
- December 24th (4th Wednesday):Ā OASDI beneficiaries who were born between the 21st and the 31stĀ Ā
- December 31st (Extra payment):Ā SSI recipients will receive their January benefits in advance due to the holiday.
Remember that these are the scheduled dates for beneficiaries. If your monthly check does not arrive on that day, the SSA says to wait three days before calling customer service.
If you still have not gotten your payment after these days, you can call or go to a local office of the Social Security Administration to have your case looked at.
Remember that you can use your “My Social Security Account” to learn more about your monthly benefits, get your financial information, and even ask Social Security to do more for you.
How much money will OASDI beneficiaries receive in their next payment from the SSA?
For people who get OASDI, the amount of money they get depends on their age when they got their first payment, their work history, the amount of Social Security taxes they paid, and the type of disability.
This is only true for people who get Social Security Disability Insurance. The Social Security Administration (SSA) says that retirees will get an average of $1,900 in their next payment. If they applied for benefits before they turned 67, they will get $2,710, and if they did not apply until they turned 67, they will get $3,822.
People who have retired and paid Social Security taxes based on the maximum taxable earnings limit for the past 35 years will also be able to get a maximum benefit of $4,873 per month.
Survivor benefits recipients, on the other hand, will get an average of $1,505 per month. Those who applied as individuals will get up to $1,773, and those with two children can earn around $3,650 per month.
Lastly, Americans with disabilities will get an average of $1,537 a year in benefits, and if they are blind, they could get up to $2,590. People who get SSDI can also get the biggest check possible, $3,822, if they paid Social Security taxes based on their highest taxable income.
How many Social Security credits should beneficiaries accumulate to receive SSA benefits?
Employees can usually get OASDI benefits based on how long they have worked for the company and how many “work credits” they have. When an employee gets 40 credits, they are fully covered and can start getting benefits from their plan.
This changes every year, but in 2024, a worker gets one work credit for every $1,730 in pay (opens in a new tab). In this way, a worker can get up to four credits a year.
