Who does Clemson miss from the ACC schedule?
Cal, Miami, NC State, Pitt, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
It’s difficult to overlook Stanford, Virginia, and Wake Forest, all of which failed to qualify for a bowl game last season, but if NC State recovers, that’s a tough team to pass over. Pitt and Cal aren’t awful to have off the schedule, but the big one is Miami. It’s a shame these two won’t meet again; they didn’t play last year, either.
Clemson football schedule, the good and the bad
The Good: If Florida State is soft again, or not back to its typical selves, the ACC schedule isn’t too tough.
Going to Georgia Tech is risky, and who knows what will emerge from the tunnel at Northwestern, but having Syracuse, SMU, and Florida State at home will help. Starting the season against LSU is difficult, but Tiger on Tiger action takes place in the South Carolina version of Death Valley.
The Bad: Going to Louisville is a terrible way to end the ACC season, especially if FSU is terrific again and the conference matchup goes wrong. As if South Carolina didn’t already have enough problems, it’s now on the road. However …
Clemson Football Schedule: Best and worst case scenarios
Best Case Scenario: The Tigers only leave South Carolina four times, and if all goes well, they sweep all four ACC road games and defeat the Gamecocks to finish the regular season.
Realistically, there is a misfire somewhere, such as against LSU to start things off, on the road against Georgia Tech, or on a bad day versus Louisville. But that’s it.
Worst Case Scenario: The Tigers lose to the other Tigers in the opening, miss their ACC opener against Georgia Tech, and set the tone for a string of poor days. Florida State or SMU win, and to make matters worse, South Carolina wins in horrific late fashion yet again.
What Will Happen: (January 29) If Clemson beats LSU, watch out. They may not be among the top five teams in the country, but they will be around the top of the rankings for a while.
There will be two poor days somewhere: Florida State may be stronger again, Syracuse is hazardous, and there are enough landmines to cause a problem. But it’s Clemson; it’ll finish 10-2, and it’ll play in the ACC Championship again.
The What Will Happen page will be updated multiple times this offseason.
