Coastal Carolina QB Grayson McCall Enters the Transfer Portal

I am so excited right now. It has been approximately 12 seconds since Grayson McCall entered the transfer portal. I have no idea what he’ll do, but this is a seriously good business move on his behalf as long as he plays his cards right.

McCall worked his way up from an unknown option quarterback who enjoyed a friendly childhood rivalry with Sam Howell to the King of Coastal Carolina in no time. He threw for 8,019 yards and 78 touchdowns to just eight interceptions in his Coastal career. No big deal. Ah yes, Sir Grayson was as accurate as can be. He completed 70.4% of his throws in teal and was always among the top in passing efficiency rating. Like among the best in FBS history. Check out this website and just look in awe at what McCall has accomplished. He’s the real deal.

Now with Jamey Chadwell leaving Coastal for Liberty, it was heavily expected that McCall would depart. It took a while as many other notables have left the program before McCall. Rumors began to swirl that McCall would simply just follow Chadwell to Liberty and hey, I too fell for that narrative and understood the move. But then this news dropped and a new thought quickly hit my brain… No. It’s a bad business move for McCall to play for Chadwell once again. This is a soon-to-be 22-year-old (Happy birthday tomorrow!) who has played in Chadwell’s offense since 2019 and has very rarely ever received the NFL hype he’s been worthy of.

I know for a fact that Grayson is capable of playing in the NFL and succeeding there but others do not, and they’ve been very neglecting of McCall’s talent and production. It’s time to start a new journey and find a spot that continues to build the Grayson McCall brand whether the mullet stays or not, helps develop him into a NFL ready quarterback, and is willing to work the offense around McCall’s strengths.

McCall is a straight up wizard with the rock in his hands. He’s one of the best playmakers in our sport. He works quickly and effectively. An offense needs to allow him to create with his legs and brain. Heck, let’s bring some of the triple option concepts to his new team. Implement those and give him the opportunity to embarrass defenders with his brilliance. McCall is such a precise thrower of the football and boasts elite anticipation skills. I also believe that he does a wonderful job of understanding looks from the defense and he knows exactly what to do to exploit them.

The king is saying a somber goodbye to his throne in Myrtle Beach that sits on the sand in the cool Coastal air. Where will Grayson McCall head next? You make the decision and tweet me your predictions!

I am a diehard UCLA fan that has enjoyed (?) mediocrity year after year. My favorite CFB moment was witnessing UCLA comeback from 34 down against Texas A&M. Being at the Rose Bowl for that historic moment is something I’ll never forget. I have written about CFB since I was 14 and my favorite thing to do is give under-the-radar athletes the recognition they deserve. You might know me from @NoContextCFB !
