Police say they found more than $1 million worth of cocaine and fentanyl in New York City last month during a drug bust.
The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York said that a suspected drug dealer was charged on Tuesday after an investigation in Queens led to the finding of 50 pounds of cocaine and packages of fentanyl.
Authorities say 33-year-old Omar Machado of Queens has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of drug tools.
It was reported that on September 3, officials from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration followed Machado from New Jersey to Middle Village. They then stopped him in a parking garage next to an apartment building at 62-98 Woodhaven Blvd. and charged him with drug crimes.
Authorities say they found the cocaine and fentanyl when they checked Machado’s car and an apartment in the building.
What does “pink cocaine” mean? Police say they are finding a new drug more and more in New York.
Based on information from the Special Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office, an NYPD lab found xylazine in the fentanyl mixture.
“There have been a lot of big cocaine seizures in our area lately.” That trend fits with the fact that South America is growing more coca than ever before.
“We will not give up in our efforts to stop all illegal drugs from coming into our city,” said Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan.
