The 47th president of the United States will also be the 45th president of the United States of America. In the Tuesday, November 5, 2024, presidential election, Republican candidate Donald J. Trump defeated Democratic contender Kamala Harris by a wide margin.
Former President Trump had 312 Electoral College votes, which is a lot more than the 270 needed to win the presidency at the time of this writing. Trump got 74,716,275 votes, while Harris got 226, giving her 70,992,229 votes.
81.54% of the vote in Overton County went to Trump for President and his running mate J.D. Vance for Vice President. Only 17.41% went to Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
People in Overton County mostly chose to vote during Early Voting, with 7,145 doing so. Another 3,655 people chose to vote on Election Day. Out of the 16,186 registered voters in the county, 68.65% showed up to vote.
Craig Story, the administrator of elections for Overton County, said, “All in all, it went really well.” “Today was very busy.” In terms of number of voters, it was the biggest election we have ever had.
Story says that there were more than 1,000 more votes cast last week than in the 2020 Presidential Election.
Story said, “We had a great crew and no really long lines.”
Out of the 312 paper absentee ballots that were turned in, some provisional ballots still need to be counted.
At this point, none of the votes are official.
In Overton County, Trump/Vance got 9,035 votes, while Harris/Walz only got 1,929 votes. In Tennessee as a whole, Trump/Vance got 1,964,499 votes, while Harris/Walz got 1,055,039 votes.
In the general election for the state Senate, Republican Marsha Blackburn beat Democratic challenger Gloria Johnson by a vote of 1,916,591 to 1,026,294. People in Overton County chose Sen. Blackburn with 8,411 votes, while Johnson got only 1,969 votes.
Republican incumbent John Rose beat Democratic challenger Lore Bergman by a vote of 225,430 to 106,050. Rose got 8,181 votes in Overton County, while Bergman got 1,728 votes for the U.S. House District 6 seat.
Ken Yager, a Republican, beat Charles Hutson II, an independent, by 77,231 votes to 12,941 in Tennessee Senate District 12. Yager got 7,918 of those votes in Overton County, while Hutson got 1,513.
In Tennessee House of Representatives District 41, Ed Butler, a Republican, won with 24,723 votes, beating Joel Derek Hawn, a Democrat, who got 5,107 votes. In Overton County, 8,022 votes went to Butler and 1,925 went to Hawn.
