Middle Tennessee’s defense is having a tough time so far this season (1-2) under new head coach Derek Mason. Things will not get better as they head to Memphis next for the first of four road games in five games.

Why Duke Will Win

Middle Tennessee has not done anything to slow down the pass. It gives up 384 yards per game, which is the most in the country. Ole Miss and WKU blew it out, and Duke should keep it up.

Maalik Murphy, a transfer from Texas, has been reliable. In the three games, he has completed about 64% of his passes and scored eight scores.

Plus, he is thrown an interception in all three games. But against the Blue Raiders, he can throw as much as he wants because the MTSU defense will not be there to stop him. But…

Why Middle Tennessee Will Win

Duke’s passing game has not been very good, and their ground attack is not helping to make up for it either.

Even though the Blue Raiders’ pass defense is bad, Ole Miss is tearing through teams, and WKU has one of the most dangerous passing games in the country. Duke may throw well, but their offense is not as strong as what the Rebels and Hilltoppers brought.

The defense has not been able to stop third downs, but the offense has been the best in Conference USA at turning them into points.

Duke vs Middle Tennessee: Who Will Win

Duke may not want to deal with Middle Tennessee as much as they would like.

But the Blue Devil offense will not be as bad as what Middle Tennessee has seen in the last few games. It should still be able to move around without too much trouble.

Middle Tennessee will put on one of their best shows, but it will not be enough. It will be hard for Duke, but they will win in the end, just like everything else they have done.
