Most people who get Social Security get one SSI payment a month. But because of how the calendar is set up in the last two months of the year, some older Americans may get an extra check in November.
The Social Security Administration sets its payment schedule a long time in advance of each year, so most people are aware of the problem. However, some seniors may be surprised next month if they do not know about the unusual schedule.
People who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) from Social Security may be able to get an extra check in November. SSI is a program for low-income disabled and elderly people.
Some of those people who get SSI also get monthly payments from Social Security. For people who turn 62, Social Security is their regular retirement income. There will be one extra SSI payment next month, and some people may get up to three in November.
The Social Security Administration will distribute an extra SSI payment in November
The Social Security Administration made an annual payment schedule so that all beneficiaries would know when they would get their monthly benefits.
This is because it has to send over 7 million payments to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients every year. This payment shows that the following dates are set for SSI benefits:
On Friday, November 1st, SSI claimants will get their November payments.
Individuals who applied for Social Security before May 1997 or received both SSI and Social Security payments will be reimbursed on November 1st.
Normally, recipients of both benefits receive their benefits on the third of the month, but because November 3rd is a Sunday, this payment will also arrive on November 1st.
On Friday, November 29th, SSI recipients will receive a second SSI payment. This is their payment for December; however, because December 1st is a Sunday, their payment for the final month of 2024 will arrive on November 29th.
In other words, people who get SSI will get two payments in November, one on November 1 and one on November 29. They will get their money on November 1 instead of November 3 if they also get Sozial Security.
Everyone else who gets Social Security will still get their money on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of every month, depending on their date of birth. Benefits for retired people will be paid out on the following dates in November:
- On November 13th, those born between the first and tenth of the month will get their Social Security check.
- Benefit checks will be issued on November 20th to those born between the 11th and the 20th of the month.
- Payments will be made on November 27th to those born between the 21st and the 31st of the month.
When will beneficiaries receive the new 2.5% from the cost of living adjustment?
This week, the Social Security Administration said that pensioners will get a 2.5% increase in their 2025 benefits to account for the rising cost of living.
Every beneficiary will get an extra $50 a month, for a total of $1,976 a month. The bigger payment will start with their January benefits.
- The first COLA rise will be given on January 8 to those born between the first and tenth of their birth month.
- Those born between the 11th and 20th of their birth month will receive a COLA increase on January 15.
- Those born between the 21st and 31st of their birth month will receive the new COLA on January 22.
Finally, remember that on January 3, people who started getting Social Security payments before May 1997 or who got both retirement and SSI payments will get a new cost of living adjustment (COLA).
People who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get the updated 2025 COLA with their payment on December 31, 2024.
