Who does Florida State miss from the ACC schedule?
Boston College, Cal, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, North Carolina, SMU, Syracuse
How good will SMU be this season? If it’s CFP-worthy again, skipping the Mustangs is a significant advantage. There is no Bill Belichick UNC team, and not playing Syracuse or Georgia Tech is a plus. Boston College, California, and Duke were all bowl teams, while Louisville is a major omission from the ACC schedule.
Florida State football schedule, the good and the bad
The Good: Once again, Louisville is much missed. After facing East Texas A&M and Kent State, the Seminoles will at least have as many wins as they did in 2024 by late September.
Overall, the slate is pretty manageable in terms of recovery. There are only two road games from eight dates, against Virginia and Stanford teams who did not go bowling, until…
The Bad: November 8th. FSU will travel to Clemson for the first of three road games in four weeks. The Tigers, North Carolina State, and Florida. That’s November, coupled with a home game against Virginia Tech. That, combined with hosting Alabama, is not ideal for a squad that wants to get out to a solid start.
Florida State Football Schedule: Best and worst case scenarios
Best-case scenario: Florida State defeats the Crimson Tide and goes on a roll. This has suddenly become the season’s comeback narrative, with the team starting 8-0 heading into the game versus Clemson. Realistically, it loses a game or two before heading to Florida, but it’s still talented enough to make the ACC Championship.
Worst-case scenario: Florida State loses to Alabama, loses the date to Miami, loses to Pitt, and finishes 4-4 before facing Clemson. The wheels come off when the squad loses two of its last four games, and the team barely qualifies for the bowl game.
What Will Happen: (January 29) No, it will not be like 2024, but it will not be exactly like 2023 either. Even with the Alabama game, it will have a solid start; it will lose to the Tide and flip a coin on Miami, but the end of November will be bearish.
This will undoubtedly be a wait-and-see team, but with this schedule and program, anything less than 8-4 will not suffice.
The What Will Happen page will be updated multiple times this offseason.
