A Laquey High School teacher who was accused of having a sexual relationship with a student has been given a sentence.
Hailey Clifton-Carmack of Waynesville was given a 120-day program by the judge on Friday, according to court records.
State statute 559.115 says that she could be let out on probation if the Department of Corrections decides that she has finished the program successfully.
After pleading guilty to one count of sexual contact with a student, Clifton-Carmack was given a four-year prison term.
A few months ago, Clifton-Carmack was nabbed near San Antonio.
Early in December, a school security officer said that a witness said the teacher and a 16-year-old student were dating. According to the police, they found texts about the relationship on Clifton-Carmack’s phone. Investigators say that Clifton-Carmack rejected the charge in an interview.
Leaders at the school say she has not been there since December 2023 and do not think she will come back.
Mark Creighton was also arrested because he was suspected of knowing about the connection but not telling anyone. Putting a child in danger was what he was accused of. He pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace not long ago and will be sentenced on November 6.
