Most seniors will have gotten their Social Security checks by October 2024. There are millions of Americans who rely on these benefits to pay for basic things.
This month, three of the four groups of people who get Social Security have already gotten their money. The fourth group is still waiting to be paid.
Based on the beneficiary’s date of birth and the year they started getting benefits, the Social Security Administration sends out checks at different times.
Groups 1, 2, and 3 already had their checks by October. Group 4 still needs to wait for their check, which will be sent on October 23, 2024.
Groups who have already gotten their October payments
Retirees who will no longer get Social Security payments this month are:
Group 1: Retirees with pre-1997 benefits, who got their check on Oct. 3.
Group 2: Retirees with benefits after May 1997 and born between the 1st and 10th of the month, who got their payment on October 9.
Group 3: Retirees with benefits after May 1997 and born between the 11th and 20th of the month, who got their payment on October 16.
Therefore, only seniors in Group 4 will be able to get a payment in October. People in this group retired after May 1997 and had a birthday in any month between the 21st and the 31st.
All the other receivers are already getting their money, at least the ones who have set up Direct Deposit. The payment might not come for a few days if this way is not used.
What to do if you don’t get your check?
It is important to make sure your bank information is right and up to date if you are in Group 4 and have not received your check by the due date.
Payments are often late because of mistakes in the banking information or the payee’s contact information.
If you get money sent directly to your bank account, please check it on October 23. If you have not gotten your check yet, call the Social Security Administration to make sure there were no mistakes.
Also, retirees who get their checks in the mail should know that this could take a few extra days. You should also call the SSA to make sure you got your payment if you have not gotten your check within a week of the due date.
So, if you want to make sure you get your Social Security payouts, make sure all of your benefit information is correct. Tell the SSA right away if you move, open a new bank account, or make any other big changes.
This will make sure that your payments are sent on time. You can also check the SSA’s online site to see how much you have paid and make any necessary changes to your account.
With the last payment for Group 4 in October, the month’s payment cycle will be over. This will give recipients peace of mind since they depend on these checks to pay for important things.
Making sure that future payments go smoothly means staying educated and doing what Social Security tells you to do.
