In a disturbing event in Texas, a mother’s careless choice to drive while drunk has caused serious problems for her young son and could mean the end of her job goals.
This mother, 39 years old and named M. Tutt, is now facing serious legal consequences for the accident that left her 9-year-old son fighting for his life.
Last week, early on Wednesday morning, Tutt is said to have been speeding and crashed into parked cars. The impact was so strong that her efforts to get away from the scene were useless because her car was so badly damaged.
People who were at the scene said Tutt looked like she was drunk and was rushing to start her car and leave the scene.
According to police records and witness accounts, it was clear that Tutt was drunk because she was “yelling and screaming” while trying to drive her badly damaged car.
Things got worse when Tutt’s sister showed up and stopped Tutt from running away. As they tried to move the unconscious child to another car while taking him out of the car, they were unsuccessful.
As soon as the paramedics came, Tutt and her sister decided to leave the scene of the accident, leaving the badly hurt child with the first responders.
The injuries that Tutt’s son got were very bad and could have killed him. Officers saw that he had a cut so deep that his brain was showing.
A head fracture and bleeding in the brain were also problems he had. Because these wounds needed quick and intensive medical care, they showed how dangerous Tutt’s actions were for her child.
Through her sister’s license plates, the police were able to find Tutt. Tutt was arrested at her sister’s house and then taken back to the crash site to be questioned.
During this time, she kept talking about how worried she was about her nursing job, as if she did not know how bad her son’s condition was.
She said, “her chance at a nursing career was over,” focusing on the things she had lost instead of how badly her child was hurt.
During the conversation, Tutt also said she wanted to see her son. “I always do the same thing,” she said over and over, “I want my son.” Tutt also told the police that she had not had much to drink that night.
The police gave Tutt a field sobriety test and a preliminary breathalyzer. She failed both, which proved she was drunk at the time of the crash. The fact that her eyes were watery and glassy and that she smelled strongly of alcohol added to the evidence of her state.
Because what happened was so bad, Tutt was taken to jail without bond. She is being charged with serious bodily injury collision and serious bodily injury assault with a car while drunk.
These charges show how careless she was and how bad the results of her actions were.
This terrible event is a harsh warning of how dangerous drunk driving is and how it can ruin innocent lives forever. This also shows how important it is to be responsible and follow the rules of the road to avoid these terrible accidents.
As the community deals with this terrible event, local officials and safety advocates keep stressing how important it is to stay sober behind the wheel and how vigilant the community needs to be to stop more tragedies like this from happening.
