In every part of the United States, people who get Social Security should keep an eye on the December payment schedule. It marks the end of 2024.
Some people will get an extra check right before the year 2025 starts. This new check for 2024 will be mailed on Monday, December 24. It will help a lot of people, especially those in Social Security group 4.
Additionally, we will be able to find a different check at the end of the same month, December 2024. This check will only be for SSI recipients who have Direct Deposit turned on.
Even though this retirement payment comes right before the holidays, it is important to remember that it does not include the 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) that will happen in 2025.
We will have to wait until next year to enjoy this increase. In this way, the payment on the December 24 check will be the same as on all the other checks written in 2024.
Who will get this additional payment?
People in group 4—those who started getting their benefit after May 1997 and were born between the 21st and 31st of any month—will get the check on December 24.
As Christmas is coming up quickly, this payment date has been pushed up to make sure that everyone gets their money in time for the holidays. It is always done this way when there is a holiday on the day the checks are mailed.
Remember that the amount each beneficiary gets depends on things like how much they have worked and how much money they have made in the past.
Because of this, this check will be very helpful for covering extra costs in the last week of the year, even though it will not include the COLA 2025. Every little bit helps with monthly bills, but around holidays like Christmas and New Year’s, it is even more important.
