The IRS has announced big changes to the tax brackets that will happen starting with the 2025 tax year and will have an effect on seniors.
These changes are due to the recent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) and are meant to show how the economy is right now.
As inflation continues to affect everyday life, it is important for retirees to know how these changes may affect their money and legal duties.
Fixed incomes, like pensions, savings, and Social Security payments, are very important for people who are retired.
This new tax system will give people some freedom and may make things easier for many lawyers. The COLA will raise Social Security benefits, so it is important to know how to figure out taxes on that extra money.

Also, retirees can better plan their budgets and estimate their tax burden if they know the new tax brackets. It is very important that they know what to do and are ready to make the necessary changes to their budgets so that they can have a better and safer retirement.
New Tax Brackets for retirees in 2025
The IRS is changing the tax brackets for 2025, and seniors need to know how these changes might affect their lawyer duties. The new brackets are meant to represent the real state of the economy and make things easier for people on fixed incomes.
Here is a thorough look at the new tax brackets that will apply to retirees starting in 2025. These will make it clear how much they will have to pay based on their income.
The following are the new tax rates that will start in 2025:
Tax Bracket (Annual Income) | Rate for Singles | Rate for Married (Filing Jointly) |
---|---|---|
Up to $11,000 | 10% | 10% |
$11,001 – $44,725 | 12% | 12% |
$44,726 – $95,375 | 22% | 22% |
$95,376 – $182,100 | 24% | 24% |
$182,101 – $231,250 | 32% | 32% |
$231,251 – $578,125 | 35% | 35% |
Over $578,126 | 37% | 37% |
The new tax brackets are a big change from the old ones. This means that retirees with smaller incomes will be able to benefit from lower tax rates. This change is especially important for people who depend on small incomes and social security.
People who are retired should think about how the new tax system will affect their total income, which could include pensions, pay, and Social Security benefits.
This is very important so they do not have any shocks when they file their taxes. Retirees should work with legal experts to make sure they pay the least amount of taxes and get the most out of their benefits.
The IRS wants these changes to not only make the tax rates more reflective of the real world, but also to make life a lot easier for retirees.

We retirees shouldn’t be taxed at all. We’ve worked all these years to support a government who hates us. And then they want give our tax dollars to other nations, who, by the way, hate us. They should hate us for FREE!!.
NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!
I agree with you and don’t understand why our government is not helping us seniors more – noone seems to care about us yet will help others countries and people that come into our country illegally
Amen brother we have to Carry baseline around with you on a daily basis, because we know we are always going to get screwed.
We worked ourselves to death to retire. We paid taxes on the money we were forced to pay into Social Security. The government has WASTED our tax dollars and now tax what was already taxed because they want, not need, more money. Take care of our veterans and seniors, those hurt by natural disasters before sending OUR MONEY to other countries who have not done their jobs for their citizens. I promise you no other country has paid to feed the homeless here.
Hello Donna,
Government must think about the people of America first.
I nearly make enough to keep my bills paid and now I may have to pay taxes again? When are Seniors ever going to get a real break? If our government would stop raiding social security for nonsense maybe we would say we are ‘fine’ Who’s pocket will be getting lined this time?
Hello Linda,
Can you tell us your annual income, so that we can tell you.
Totally agree!!
Totally agree with Leon.
Retirees Should be able to make at least May twenty to twenty five thousand Over your social security without being text.I’m a damn look how long we paid it in, One thing for sure , we ain’t going to be able to make Is it very long before we’re dead. And we would be paying taxes on it everything we pay for This is a weeding thing with that twenty or twenty five thousand dollars so It would still benefit them in the long run, Politicians and lawmakers can be some of the dumbest people in this country.Well we all know that because we’re giving it all to Illegal immigrants.
That has never paid a diamond taxes.
I totally agree with Leon. Catherine got it correct. Totally agree with Leon.
My tax will go up from 12% to 22%, how do I benefit from this?
Hello Jerry,
Income below 11,000 usd or equal to 11,000 usd could get benefit
They got to keep laundering our money through their proxies. Weapons of war manufacturers and the real “lords of war” from ALL COUNTRIES are profiting from our tax dollar.
Why can’t we spend more like that on home. We got issues. Sick, homeless Americans starving. Small business chocked out. Prices so high for practically everything it takes for survival. It’s bad. People getting murdered almost daily in my area. DMV is overrun. Haven’t been to the hospital yet. 50/50 chance getting robbed or murdered at the gas station because of “new people” in town. Someone had a duty to stop this passive invasion in 2020. Was given the power, the title and did nothing. Covered Joe’s condition and pulled a soft coup. We are here now because of some mean but mostly true tweets and 8+ years of constant “Orange Man Bad” from recently exposed fake news from bad actors from multiple media outlets. America is tired of the lies and BS.
I agree with Leon, we should be taxed, especially considering the Govt has used SS as their Piggy Bank over the years,
Just because my husband still works to make a living, my SS is taxed at a ridiculous rate! The Government is robing us blind while giving to noncitizens at un unbelievable rate and at our expense….. How is this fare to hard working Americans??
