It is unusual for a sitting president to be concerned about the tragic death of a civilian’s dog, but that is exactly what happened when US President Joe Biden learnt of the death of Kirk Herbstreit is beloved dog, Ben.
Last year, ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit started including his golden retriever Ben in his work. He brought Ben to games he was calling and to the set of the College Game Day pregame show.
However, Ben died a few weeks ago, which broke the hearts of many college football fans.
A lot of people sent Walden condolences, but he probably did not expect to hear from the President of the United States. But that is exactly what took place.
Herbstreit said on Wednesday afternoon that he got a personal letter from Biden saying he was sorry for Ben’s death.
Putting politics aside, I was REALLY touched to receive this personal note from [Joe Biden] expressing his gratitude and sorrow over the loss of our beloved Ben.
Herbstreit wrote on X, “I can only hope that Ben knows how many people he touched.” He included a picture of the signed message Biden sent to him.
Biden wrote in the letter that he was sorry for Ben’s death and had some nice things to say about Herbstreit.
In his letter, Biden said, “I was so sorry to hear about the death of your beloved Ben.”
It went on to say, “Ben brought so much comfort and unconditional love to millions of Americans across our country.” “In your happiest and saddest times, he was there, aware of every emotion and feeling you did not say out loud.”
When I lost a pet I loved, it hurt a lot. I hope that remembering the good times you had with Ben will help you feel better. “He was a good boy,” the message said.
It is amazing that Biden knew so much about college football to send such a nice message, but it is clear that it was much appreciated.
