Who does Missouri miss from the SEC schedule?
Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas
It’s about as terrific a group to miss as anyone in the SEC can hope for. It would have been wonderful to miss Alabama, but it was a home game.
The Tigers are missing the three College Football Playoff teams from last year: Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas. There is no Florida or LSU, the absence of Ole Miss is significant, and if the worst predicted team you are missing is Kentucky, you will be pleased.
Missouri football schedule: the good and bad
The Good: In addition to the teams the Tigers miss, and with Alabama at home, Mizzou appears to have the ridiculous advantage of never, ever, ever leaving Columbia.
The first six games are at home, with one open date thrown in. That means the Tigers won’t have to leave home until October 18th. The road games are filled with back-to-back games versus Auburn and Vanderbilt, which is not awful, and then Oklahoma and Arkansas at the conclusion.
The Bad: Missouri might become tired of home cooking.
All things considered, the four road games are the softest ever for an SEC slate, there is a week off before facing Texas A&M, and if there is anything to gripe about, it is that the open date comes after the middle two road games rather than before them.
(This schedule has absolutely no negative aspects.)
Missouri Football Schedule: Best and worst-case scenarios.
Best case scenario: The Tigers dominate the first half of the season. There aren’t many issues with Kansas and South Carolina; they breeze through non-conference play and beat Alabama.
They defeat Auburn and Vanderbilt on the road, take a week off to rest and beat Texas A&M, and are 10-0 heading into games against Oklahoma and Arkansas on their path to the SEC Championship.
Worst Case Scenario: Everyone kisses this team’s buttocks all offseason, expectations are sky-high, and Mizzou fumbles the Kansas game early on and falls to South Carolina for a disappointing 3-2 start.
The Tigers lose to Alabama, lose at least one of their road games against Auburn and Vanderbilt, and fall to Texas A&M in November, capping out a 1-3 month.
Season Prediction: (January 30) Given the manageable schedule, the season will fall somewhere between a tremendous unbeaten streak and a catastrophic disappointment.
There will be a home loss to Kansas, South Carolina, or Texas A&M, if not several of them.
Out of the four winnable road games, at least two will be losses, most likely to Auburn and Oklahoma, with a chance for something major in the final two dates at OU and Arkansas.
For the time being, expect an 8-4 low, a 9-3 average, and a 10-2 high.
The Season Prediction will be revised multiple times over the offseason.
