Friday morning, the mother of a newborn who overdosed on fentanyl was given a sentence in narcotics court. In August, Chanel Gallegos entered a guilty plea to two charges of possession of a controlled substance and abuse of a child that did not result in death.
In May 2023, the Albuquerque Police Department was summoned to David Olivas and Gallegos’ residence due to an unresponsive child.
A criminal complaint states that medical staff were forced to administer Narcan to the kid. APD discovered that both of the youngsters in the house had access to an open baggie containing fentanyl.
Olivas’s involvement in the overdose resulted in a prior probationary term. Gallegos was sentenced to drug court by Judge Bruce Fox. Should she fail to finish the program, she might spend six years in prison.
