Are you looking for something scary to do on the weekends? A new scary house has appeared outside of North Sioux City, South Dakota, to give people like you chills.
“This is where you come to be scared.” “You come here to have fun,” Siouxland Shadows member Lenny Tucker said.
Since more than ten years ago, Lenny Tucker has been scaring people. At Park Jefferson International Speedway, he was given the chance to put on his own spooky house.
“Scary movies scare me to death.” Ghost houses scare me to death, I do not like them. Tucker said, “I just have a creative mind and I like making people laugh.”
Tucker knew he wanted scary themes for Siouxland Shadows before he put it together for its first year.
“I do not think they should be just random, like a zombie in the middle of a clown room,” Tucker said. “So one side should be all clowns and the other side should be all babies and patients in my psych ward.”
The spooky house opened in late September with a lot of help from many people. Tucker put his own spin on how they are run.
“The only thing I do not like about haunted houses is how people are pushed through them. I want people to enter a room and connect with it.” When I built this one, I changed a little about how I do ghost houses because every room has a place for something.
I do not want them to have to keep going because the next group is coming. “There are hallways and mazes everywhere after they leave the room, but there is activity in the room while they are there,” Tucker said.
Tuckers is still working on Siouxland Shadows, even though it is already up and running.
“Every single day, seven days a week, I come out here.” And we are making walls and changing things to make sure that the people who come through here get their money’s worth. They are really scared, Tucker said.
Tucker says most nights are busy, and he thinks the scare players and his creativity are to blame.
There are a lot of players here, and they are all good. We hired them this year to do this. If you want to scare people with clowns, you do not even have to be a good scare person.
Clowns are scary by nature. But the little girl has been great in the mental hospital. “At the end, we have a husband and wife who do a great job,” Tucker said.
We are still in the middle of the year, but Tuckers is already thinking about next year and how he can make Siouxland Shadows better.
Tucker said, “We have a lot of room to grow and a lot of ideas and things to do. It just takes time and work.”
Tucker says he knows what ideas he wants to use next year. The clown room will have a scary movie theme, and the baby dolls will look like ghouls.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 6:30 p.m., Siouxland Shadows is open until 12 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and until 10 p.m. on Sunday.
