Several groups of US retirees are awaiting their new Social Security checks, as the Administration has only sent out one of the four checks for the month thus far.
Nonetheless, today is the day that new payments are sent out to thousands of retirees, so we can receive a check if we are eligible.
Group 2 retirees will begin to see changes to their 2025 benefit payments today. If we belong to this group and meet the two mandatory requirements, we will be able to access the payment.
If not, don’t worry; the administration will pay us regardless of the group. If we are not eligible for today’s payment, it will be delivered on a later date in January.
Who gets today’s Social Security with the 2025 changes?
Only one group can receive today’s Social Security payment on January 8, 2025. This group consists of retirees from Group 2. To be a member of this group, we must meet two mandatory requirements.
There are no exceptions, so we must meet both requirements to receive the payment in our checking account.
The requirements for the 2025 Social Security check are as follows:
- Have a check after May 1997.
- Have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month of the year.
Furthermore, activating Direct Deposit ensures that you receive your payment on the same day it is sent.
If we are eligible for this payment but have not activated Direct Deposit, we will receive a check in the coming days of the same week in January.
Regarding the changes to this payment, we should note that the 2025 COLA will be added to it.
This addition gives the payments amounts that they did not have previously. So we should receive a payment in excess of 2024.
The maximum monthly check also changes, now $4,018 for retirees at age 67 and Disability, and $5,180 for retirees at age 70.
In any case, the changes to Social Security payments that will go into effect in January will last until 2025.
