Who does Oklahoma miss from the SEC schedule?
Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt
It could be much, much better.
Missing Florida and Texas A&M is wonderful, and not facing Georgia is clearly great, but Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt are teams you’d rather have on the schedule than what the Sooners will face.
Oklahoma Football Schedule: The Good and the Bad
The Good: Temple is playing an unusual game, but it must be a layup of a victory. Given that the Texas game is, as always, in Dallas, the meeting with the Owls is the only true road game until October 18th.
Norman has a handful of the nastiest games. Playing Michigan is clearly difficult, but it is at home, as is getting Ole Miss – the Rebels will have just returned from a game at Georgia – and having Missouri and LSU at home should be really beneficial.
The Bad: The Sooners will face all of the other terrible SEC teams that were not named in the “miss” column. They have to deal with Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas, all of which are distant from home.
There is no actual break. There is a week off between games at Tennessee and Alabama, but after the layup against Kent State, the second half of the schedule is as severe as any in NCAA football. It all starts with four games in five days away from home.
Oklahoma Football Schedule: Best and worst-case scenarios.
Best Case Scenario: To be realistic, the Sooners defeat Michigan on their way to a 5-0 start. Then comes the fun.
They beat Texas and South Carolina before facing Ole Miss at home. They understand, everything is going well, and then they win at least two of the next four games to get to the SEC Championship.
Worst-case scenario: The Sooners miss their game against Michigan, lose to Texas, and falter in the second part of the season.
They do not win any of their three road games against South Carolina, Tennessee, or Alabama, and they must beat both Missouri and LSU to be bowl eligible.
Season Prediction: (January 30) Do you see the date when this was written? Oklahoma’s schedule projections and opinions are expected to change the most of any of the 16 SEC clubs in the coming months, particularly after spring ball.
It’ll handle the first half of the slate well, struggle in the second half, and finish with seven wins on the low end, ten if everything goes perfectly.
The Season Prediction will be revised multiple times over the offseason.
