Who does Ole Miss miss from the SEC schedule?
Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt
It could be a little better, but any season without having to face Alabama is a bonus. Georgia is on the schedule, but the other two CFP teams from last year, Tennessee and Texas, are gone, as are potential landmine games against Texas A&M and Missouri.
Auburn and Vanderbilt would have been winnable games, but overall, the group that is absent from the schedule is strong.
Ole Miss football schedule: the good and the bad
The Good: Does Ole Miss ever need to leave Oxford? There are just four away games, one of which is against Mississippi State, allowing the team to settle in and become comfortable.
LSU, South Carolina, and Florida are home games, Kentucky and Mississippi State, aside from the rivalry, are road games, and there are no non-conference opponents to worry about.
The Bad: High-rent district difficulties, and a back-to-back mini-run of road games against Georgia and Oklahoma might be a game-changer. But, honestly, that’s it.
Again, the Rebels are missing a plethora of crucial teams, and those two tough road matchups are spread out over a manageable period. If your main concern is staying focused, that’s fine.
Ole Miss Football Schedule: Best and worst-case scenarios
Best Case Scenario: The Rebels split their road games against Georgia and Oklahoma while defeating everyone else.
Barring a calamity, Ole Miss will almost probably be the favorite against everyone at home, with the possible exception of LSU.
It has no problems in the SEC opener against Kentucky or in the Egg Bowl to end the regular season, and there are no home mental blocks like last year’s defeat to UK – look out for Arkansas – on the path to an appearance in the SEC Championship and a guaranteed position in the CFP.
Worst Case Scenario: The excitement is high, and everything comes crashing down with an early defeat to Kentucky followed by a home loss to either Arkansas or LSU.
Throw in a defeat at Georgia, and there are at least three losses before a dismal road loss to Oklahoma. Worst of all, it ends with a defeat to a resurgent Mississippi State.
Season Prediction: (January 30) The Rebels will rip through the majority of this schedule, but there will be a home misfire somewhere – Florida or LSU will be tough – and the away games at Georgia and Oklahoma will be a concern.
There will be three random defeats, but the CFP remains on the table heading into the Mississippi State game.
The Season Prediction will be revised multiple times over the offseason.
