Pete Hegseth’s mother slammed his character in an email shortly after his contentious divorce from his second wife, Samantha, the mother of three of his children.
Penelope Hegseth, who is 70 years old, wrote that Trump’s choice for defense secretary had been abusing women for years.
She wrote on April 30, 2018, “On behalf of all the women (and I know there are many) you have abused in some way, I say… get some help and take an honest look at yourself.”
“I do not respect men who put women down, lie, cheat, sleep with other women, and use them for their own power and ego.”
“You are that man, and have been for years. As your mother, it hurts and shames me to say that, but it is the sad truth.”
The shocking email was found by The New York Times and was written up in an article that came out Friday night.
Hegseth’s mother also said this about how he treated Samantha during their nasty divorce: “It is disgusting and abusive that you tried to claim she was “unstable” to help yourself.” Do you still have any sense of right and wrong?
“She did not ask for or deserve any of the things you gave her.”
Also, Penelope Hegseth said of her son’s first wife, Meredith, “Neither did she.”
Penelope Hegseth told the Times on Friday that she had taken back the things she said in the email and now feels bad about sending it.
“That is not true.” She said, “It is never been true.” “I know your son.” He is a good husband and father. The idea of making the first email public was “disgusting,” she said.
Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, told the Daily Beast, “The New York Times is disgusting for using a piece of an illegally obtained private email exchange between a mother and her son that does not accurately show the whole conversation.” In later emails, Mrs. Hegseth said she was sorry for her emotional message and said she was sorry.
It was said that Pete Hegseth, 44, raped a woman he met at a Republican conference in Monterey, California, in 2017.
He did admit that he paid the woman back later to protect his job as a Fox News host, but he strongly denied her claim, saying that they had agreed to meet. He was not charged.
He asked for a divorce from his second wife after it came out that he had been seeing 39-year-old Fox News executive Jennifer Rauchet. They got married at a Trump golf course in 2019 and have a daughter together.
