Authorities say that a woman from Belvidere and a semi driver were both taken to the hospital early Thursday morning after she accidentally drove her car into the path of the semi.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says that around 8:09 a.m., they were called to the area where Cherry Valley Road and Kingston Road meet.
According to the initial investigation, the police say that Holly Gleason, 32, was driving a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was carrying five children. The Jeep stopped at a stop sign on Kingston Road and then moved into the crossing.
Police say there wasn’t a stop sign on a Peterbilt semi-truck that was going west on Cherry Valley Road.
It was driven by a 33-year-old man from Elgin who swerved to avoid a full crash and rolled into the ditch and cornfield.
The truck driver was taken from the scene by helicopter. It was taken to a hospital in Rockford for Gleason. No one knows how bad their injuries are.
The police said that none of the kids looked like they were hurt.
Authorities say that the incident is being looked into and that tickets will be issued soon.
