Canada’s police said Tuesday that they are looking into the death of a 19-year-old Walmart worker who was found in the baking oven of a store.
Police said that officers were called to the Halifax, Nova Scotia, Walmart on Saturday night after the worker was found dead.
As of Tuesday, Halifax Regional Police said, “The woman, who worked at the store, was found in a large walk-in oven that belonged to the bakery department.”
Police said they are working with Occupational Health and Safety and the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service to find out what happened.
As of Tuesday, police said they still did not know what killed the person or how they died because the case was “complex.”
“An investigation of this nature may take a significant amount of time,” the police said.
A spokesperson for Walmart said Tuesday that the store will be closed until further notice because of the probe.
“We are heartbroken, and our thoughts are with our employee and their family,” Amanda Moss, a Walmart spokeswoman, told ABC News. “Our focus remains on taking care of our associates and making sure they have the support they need.”
That Walmart is giving its employees on-site help, such as grief counseling, as well as virtual care.
The bakery and a piece of equipment at the Walmart store were given a stop work order on Tuesday by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills, and Immigration.
The department said in a statement, “Because this is still an active investigation, we cannot release any further details at this time.” They also said that workplace investigations “are complex and can take time.”
