I have been yelling all week that Alabama will make it.
It beat South Carolina, which JUST beat Clemson last week, and Georgia, which is going to be the two-seed SEC champion. I thought there was no way the committee could put SMU above Clemson or Clemson above SMU. If they did, Alabama would be in and SMU would be out.
That probably changed after SMU’s late comeback to tie the ACC Championship in the last few seconds.
Things might be different now if Clemson had smashed the Mustangs. Now, let me tell you HOW I THINK this WILL WORK.
The committee will not change the order of teams ranked last week that were not in a conference championship. It will probably, though, make all the conference champions more valuable.
That is not what it means; it will push teams up, which could send some down. Yes, it will put Clemson ahead of SMU. But it will also put Boise State and Arizona State ahead of them.
I could be very, very wrong, and Alabama could get the call after all, but…
