There is too much going on in the Sun Belt West for this to be a turning point for the division. However, Louisiana can make a big statement as the only team in the division that has not lost.
The Ragin’ Cajuns have won four games in a row since their loss to Tulane. After a brief lull, the team seems to be back on track. The offense has been great, and the defense is fine.
LA is already in a bowl game, and it will play three home games in a row before going to ULM.
Texas State is still in the running for the Sun Belt title, but last week’s shocking loss to Old Dominion will make things tough. The offense got stuck for the first time all season. If they win here, they will still be able to go on a run and win the West.

Why Louisiana Will Win
Texas State, do you want a shootout? Louisiana is able to keep up.
There is a good balance, and the passing game came alive last week against Coastal Carolina. Everything is working as it should.
Turnovers are not a problem—only four so far this year—and the offense is great on third downs. It all comes together when they win the time of possession battle.
The defense can bend, but it only gives up 320 yards per game, which is the fewest in the Sun Belt.
Texas State lost to Old Dominion. How did that happen? Turnovers. Twelve times this year, it has turned the ball over. In the three losses, it has a -3 turnover margin, but in the four wins, it is even.
Why Texas State Will Win
The attack could start right away.
Jordan McCloud had a tough game at quarterback against Old Dominion, but his midrange passes should be successful all game against a Ragin’ Cajun defense that has been hit or miss.
The Bobcats need to keep the Louisiana offense off the field and in charge of the ball and the clock. As long as they keep the pressure on by making the most of their third down chances, everything should be fine.
In the win over Louisiana, Tulane converted 65% of its third down attempts, while in the close loss, Wake Forest converted 62% of its attempts. Only 69% of the time, Texas State is able to connect.
Louisiana vs Texas State: Who Will Win
These two offenses will make it fun.
Both will move the chains and go on efficient marches, but there’s one key difference. Texas State can get into the backfield, and Louisiana can’t.
The Ragin’ Cajun defense is just fine even without the big plays in the backfield, but that will be costly on the road in this.
