Can Jacksonville State get this thing going again?
Last week, the Gamecocks beat Kennesaw State 63–23. At times, they looked like the powerful teams they played in 2023. They need to win this game, then beat Middle Tennessee to get off to a 3-0 start in Conference USA before going on the road to Liberty.
New Mexico State lost to New Mexico 50–40, but they did get the offense going. A win over an FBS team has yet to come for them this season.

Why New Mexico State Will Win
We hoped that the New Mexico State running game would show up.
Yes, the 1-4 start has been bad. No, this is not the same team that had SEC legend Diego Pavia at quarterback for the Aggies last year. Yes, this could be when the team starts to make noise.
Liberty, Fresno State, and Sam Houston were all teams it lost to. Against Liberty, it fought hard and won 30–24. Their defense is terrible, and last week the Aggies ran for 285 yards and four scores, averaging 8 yards per carry.
Keep running, pause the timer, and… the Gamecocks will only have the ball for about 25 minutes.
Why Jacksonville State Will Win
There is a problem with the New Mexico State defense.
This team is the worst in the country at making stops for loss. The run defense has also been terrible, and the passing attack is the worst in the country. The NMSU D is making everyone fat, and Jacksonville State will be next.
It got hot for almost 700 yards running and almost 1,110 yards of offense in the last two games against Southern Miss and Kennesaw State.
The group led by Rich Rodriguez will get off the bus with 500 yards.

There were a lot of points, big plays that went up and down, and plays that were just plain silly. There will be at least one or two stops by Jacksonville State. New Mexico State will get goals, but in the second half, they will stop moving the ball.
