It is not quite an elimination game for the College Football Playoff, but it is pretty close.
It would take a lot of Dawgwashing to allow a 9-3 team in, even if it was Georgia. But beating Texas by 15 points is a big deal, and a great game against the CFP No. 6 Vols can make the losses to Alabama and Ole Miss seem less important.
That is all there is to it. Tennessee beat Alabama. There is a good chance that the 24–17 win over a team that will go to a bowl game was the only one so far.
After beating UTEP, the Vols still have to deal with a scary game at Vanderbilt. However, winning in Athens could make or break the season.

Teams: Georgia (7-2), Tennessee (8-1)
Why Tennessee Will Win
The Georgia offense is not working right, even though it has scored 30 points or more in seven of its nine games.
Carson Beck, the quarterback, is playing like the weight of a whole university is on his shoulders.
The running game is also inconsistent, and the team has turned the ball over 15 times in the last six games. Maybe we are all waiting for something that is not there yet.
When things are not going well, you do not want to deal with this defense.
They give up just under 13 points per game and are ranked second in the country in stopping offenses on third down. That is the big problem for the Dawgs.
In the last four games, Tennessee has stolen the ball nine times. But…
Why Georgia Will Win
Georgia likes to mess things up and grind.
It made it through a tough game against Kentucky early in the year, when things were not going as planned. When things got tough late in the game, it went through Florida.
The defense is still great, and it is still Georgia. Overall, it is 13th in the country. Tennessee’s offense gains yards but not points—again, the schedule has not been great—and being at home should make a difference.
Crazy that it is already so late in the season and Georgia has only played four home games. They have played two neutral site games and four road games.
Tennessee vs Georgia: Who Will Win?
Is the defense strong enough to stop the Tennessee offense? What kind of Georgia offense will they play?
If it does not get going right away against a strong Volunteer defense, will it be the same one that could not be stopped in the second half against Alabama and the whole game against Clemson? Or will it look lost, tight, and down?
You can expect some of everything. For some reason, I do not think this will end in a shootout, but Georgia will win. This game is going to be as tough and exciting as any this season.
