Prediction, Game Preview, and Odds for Ole Miss vs. South Carolina

Ole Miss finally played a good team and lost.

It was fun to beat Furman, Middle Tennessee, Wake Forest, and Georgia Southern, but in a 20–17 thriller, the team could not get the job done.

Three of the next four games are on the road, including this one against a South Carolina team that is way too low on the rankings.

USC beat LSU, LSU beat South Carolina, Kentucky beat South Carolina, and Ole Miss beat Kentucky. There is only one thing that can happen: Georgia beats UK.

It should go from Georgia to Kentucky to South Carolina to LSU to South Carolina to Ole Miss.

Now it is up to the Gamecocks to show how good they really are. They have three games left: at Alabama, at Oklahoma, and at Texas A&M.

Why Ole Miss Will Win

Pass the ball around quickly.

So far, South Carolina’s run defence has been great, but Ole Miss should gain a lot of yards on the ground.

Akron was stopped really well, but LSU ran the ball more than four times per run and scored three touchdowns. That is what Kentucky does, but Ole Miss was held to it against Kentucky.

Everything will be fine as long as Ole Miss keeps a six-yard average per run. They did this in all four games.

The Rebel defence getting into the backfield will be the bigger problem for the Gamecocks. In the last two games, Ole Miss has made 25 stops for loss, which means they should be able to tear through South Carolina’s weak offensive line. But…

Why South Carolina Will Win

It is possible that Ole Miss is not that great.

Again, Ole Miss blew through four bad teams before getting stuck when it played a team that knows how to run the clock and the game.

The Gamecocks need to keep the clock going by converting third downs. Getting good runs on first downs is very important, and they should feel free to win the time of possession fight.

When it comes to sacks and tackles for loss, Ole Miss is no. 1 in the country. The line will not hold up, so South Carolina’s offence will have a rough day.

It will not be a bomb, because South Carolina is better than Kentucky, but the Rebels will be worse. The defence will not let the Gamecocks get more than 350 yards. A lot of important sacks in the second half will make the difference.
