Prediction, Game Preview, and Odds for TCU vs. SMU

Now that SMU is one of the Power Four, can it finally win a game at the highest level?

Over the last ten years, it has had a very hard time beating Power 5 teams. However, in 2019 and 2021, TCU broke the string and run.

After tearing through almost every team in the AAC last year, the offense has had a tough time this year. Last week, they stopped in an 18-15 loss to BYU, which was another loss to a Power Four team.

In a tough 35–34 Big 12 loss, TCU put UCF in a lot of trouble but could not hold on. Florida State has to play three straight ACC games away from home after this.

Why TCU Will Win

They DID have them.

Things were going well for TCU against UCF until the defense broke down. It was a rough start to the Big 12 schedule. But the game showed again how good quarterback Josh Hoover is and how ready he is to become a Big 12 star.

As of now, he has thrown for over 400 yards and two touchdowns and has not picked off a pass. He should give SMU’s offense the offensive punch it needs, but isn’t.

Preston Stone, the best quarterback, is hurt, and Kevin Jennings has a lot of potential but has been having some trouble so far. But…

Why SMU Will Win

The TCU defense played great against LIU and Stanford, but after getting ahead 28–7, it could not finish the job against UCF.

It looks like SMU has everything it needs to blow up and start the attack, just like everyone thought it would.

While the Horned Frogs’ defense does not take the ball away enough and their offense does not run the ball enough, there will be plenty of chances for the other team.
