Mississippi State is having a bad time.
Blake Shapen, the starting quarterback, is hurt and out for the year. The offensive lines are having trouble, and the defense can not tackle. Something is wrong when you lose at home by 24 points to Toledo and by 17 points to Florida (who loses to Florida right now?).
But this is what a rebuild looks like, and Jeff Lebby, the new head coach, is just getting started.
At the same time, everyone is crazy about the Texas team that beat up on UTSA and ULM like they were the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Yankees, respectively.
It was pretty big to beat Michigan in Ann Arbor, and that Arch Manning game might be pretty good.
There is a week off for the Longhorns after this SEC appetizer. Then they play Oklahoma and Georgia.

Why Mississippi State Will Win
What is good about it?
The Lebby attacking style has not always been good or even, but there have been times when it showed what it can do.
There were signs in the second half of the Arizona State loss, and against Florida, they were even on the ground and in the air, going 240 yards each way.
One good thing about this is that the school will now be able to help Michael Van Buren Jr.
The Bulldogs are now playing for 2025—really, the killer schedule for the rest of 2024 is not going to be fun—so there is no rush at all.
Let it go. Van Buren should do whatever it takes to get moving and act like the ultimate loser because
Why Texas Will Win
Texas’s speed will be too much for the Bulldogs, but…
The hammer is here.
While the season is still going on, none of the running back injuries have been that big of a deal.
If Arch Manning really is starting, which he should be since he has a week off after this to give Quinn Ewers more time to heal, he can also take off, and it should not be hard to keep going.
It took 346 yards for Arizona State to beat the Bulldogs, and Florida ran for more than six yards per run. Those two teams, along with Toledo, have scored seven touchdowns in the last three weeks.
Texas vs Mississippi State: Who Will Win
Enjoy the SEC party, get the win, and then leave to rest up for Oklahoma and Georgia.
It could take a while, and Mississippi State is an SEC team, so it will not be a speed bump for long. But after two plays, it will mostly be a practice game.
