It is getting worse for both teams; neither is playing well, and they both need a win badly right now.

Kentucky is having an even worse season than Auburn, and that was the only win in the last six games. It needs to win out to get to bowl games, but going up against Texas A&M and Alabama makes that a little harder for a team that can not get its offense going.

ULM has only been able to get five wins for weeks now. Before the tougher schedule, it got off to a 5-1 start. Now it is lost three straight games. That team needs to win at Arkansas State or against a rolling Louisiana team if it does not want to bowl.

Why ULM Will Win

Auburn’s offense just will not work.

A typical run for five yards is given, but that does not tell the whole story. A key part of the team’s ability to win is their “feast or famine” attack.

The Tigers are 0-6 when they run for less than 6.5 yards per carry, which is a lot. They are 3-0 when they get that many yards or more. There is not enough pop in the passing game to help the team.

No matter how many times Auburn has lost, they have yet to throw for more than 150 yards.

Why Auburn Will Win

The pass rush for ULM is not strong enough to matter. The Auburn offense does not move the ball enough, but the ULM run defense is no longer there.

Yes, Auburn does need to run the ball well. In two of the last three games, the Warhawk defense gave up at least six yards per carry, and against South Alabama and Texas State, they gave up well over 300 rushing yards.

Auburn is not going to mess around. ULM is 1-4 when teams run that many or more times. It will happen at least 40 times, and the time of possession will be switched around a bit.

Well, ULM did beat James Madison, but that was the last good win over the five.

The defense will keep the Warhawks in check enough that this will not be scary in any way. Auburn will not be able to tear this up right away, though. As the game goes on, the Tigers’ ground game will take over.
