Someone damaged a billboard of Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate for president, and the Democratic Party in Rockingham County wants to know who did it.
A person saw the billboard and sent pictures of it to WFMY News 2 Monday morning. There are white and red paint spots all over it, which could have been made by a paintball gun.
Rockingham County Democratic Party leaders saw the damage when they drove by the billboard on Highway 220/I-73 in Madison. The group said they made a report by calling the sheriff’s office.
“It is sad that this is how politics work in our country now.” Vandalism or theft of campaign signs is not okay with our party, and it does not matter what candidate or party the signs belong to.
In the past few weeks, several of our signs have been stolen or knocked down. The worst theft was of the signs around and on the hay bale that our party decorated for the Mayodan “What the Hay Fest.”
“That theft happened on town property,” Jeff Webster, Chair of the Rockingham County Democratic Party, said.
The Republican Party of Rockingham County was contacted by WFMY News 2. The group said that actions like these are not okay at all.
“This is a shame…” It is not what the Republican Party wants to see! The signs of anyone running for office in the United States can be put up anywhere without fear of being vandalized.
The brave people who came before us fought hard for freedom, said Diane Parnell, Chair of the Rockingham County Republican Party.
Webster said that his group also called the advertising company to let them know about the damage. He said the company did not give him a time frame for when it would be replaced.
