Just weeks after a family tragedy, 66-year-old WRESTLING icon Rey Misterio Snr passed away. Real name Miguel Ángel López Días, Misterio Snr was the uncle of WWE hall of fame entrant Rey Mysterio.
Officially retired in 2009, the masked luchador began wrestling in 1976. Tragic news about Mexican wrestling organization Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide leaked on social media. They said: “We grieve the sensitive passing of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Mysterio Sr.
“We raise our prayers to heaven for his eternal rest and send our most honest condolences to his loved ones.” Born in Tijuana, Mexico, in 1955, Misterio Snr first began his career as a boxer before deciding on wrestling.
The death of Misterio Snr follows the passing of Rey Mysterio’s father, Robert Gutierrez, aged 76 a few weeks ago. “Father: thank you for giving me the life I have,” 50-year-old Mysterio said.
“You were the example and passed every single time until your death with flying colors; you did more than just show how to love and preserve a strong marriage and father four boys.”
“Excellent husband, loving father, lovely grandfather, incredible son & brother, and amazing father in law.”
Still working for the WWE, Mysterio recently lost a fight after being unmasked.
He lately competed in the US Championship, which Logan Paul later defeated at Crown Jewel.
