Ryan Williams, Jalen Milroe, and the other top 10 candidates for the Heisman Trophy in Week 6

The race for the 2024 Heisman Trophy is pretty much over.

Everyone who played, thanks for your time if Alabama keeps winning and Jalen Milroe keeps being Jalen Milroe. Put the name on the award now.

A mountain west running back who can not be stopped and two superstar rookie wide receivers from Colorado are some of the great players who will be in the running for the next few months.

Here are the ten players we think are most likely to win the Heisman Trophy in Week 6.

10. Jeremiah Smith, WR Ohio State

Ryan Williams of Alabama has been the star rookie wide receiver, but shhhhhhhhhh.

(Smith might be better in the long run.)

While Smith does not have the full numbers yet, the 19 catches for 364 yards and five touchdowns, which is more than 19 yards per catch, are more than good.

It is the talk in the underground. People at Ohio State say he is one of the best wide outs the team has ever had, so you know you are doing something right.

9. Arch Manning, QB Texas

Again, this has to do with Arch and the popularity fight. He made the three-foot putt against Mississippi State and completed 26 of 31 passes for 324 yards and two scores. He also ran six times for 33 yards and a touchdown.

It will be hard to keep Quinn Ewers on the bench for the game against Oklahoma in two weeks.

8. Nico Iamaleava, QB Tennessee

This week he had a break, but soon there will be big events. Next up for Tennessee is a grudge game against Arkansas. After that is a game against Florida, and finally… Alabama.

The stats need to be turned up for Iamaleava, and then he needs to shine.

7. Ryan Williams, WR Alabama

Ryan Williams, who is only 17, made one of the most beautiful touchdown catches in college football history. It put Alabama ahead in the all-time battle over Georgia but was not easy.

He caught six passes, gained 177 yards, and scored that amazing touchdown. His average of 28.88 yards per catch was the highest in the country. He caught 16 passes for 462 yards and four scores.

6. Dillon Gabriel, QB Oregon

He just keeps going.

He might end the season as the NCAA’s all-time best passer, but his team beat UCLA 34–13 without him having to throw a bomb. Even though he picked off one pass, he completed 31 out of 41 passes for 278 yards and three scores. In the short break, he ran for 23 yards.

5. Shedeur Sanders, QB Colorado

At the time, Travis Hunter is getting more attention, but the Colorado quarterback has a better chance of winning.

Sanders had a bad pick against UCF, but he also threw three scores and 290 yards for the 48-21 win.

4. Travis Hunter, WR/CB Colorado

One hundred and fifty. Even though he is getting a lot of attention, I am not going to put him this high.

Forget what the stupid Richard Sherman said about being “bland”—it is hard to stand out on a team led by Deion Sanders. Hunter is the kind of college football player you want.

Travis Hunter is a great high school student, great wide receiver, and great defender. He is an All-American on the field and in the classroom. He might be in the running, though, he will not win it.

3. Cam Ward, QB Miami

For some reason, all the news sites have called him “Heisman Favourite Cam Ward,” which helps.

Going forward, it will be hard to play in big games, but he did well against Virginia Tech, throwing for 343 yards and four touchdowns and running for 57 yards and a touchdown. But after the end, no one really remembers that.

2. Ashton Jeanty, RB Boise State

There is only the hype left to go, but it is on its way.

How well has Jeanty done? He averages 40 yards more per game than Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson, who is the second-best runner in the country.

It takes him 10.3 yards to run a yard, and he has 13 touchdowns, three more than Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson. No one else has more than nine.

The 45–24 win over Washington State was his 26th game. He ran for 259 yards and four scores.

1. Jalen Milroe, QB Alabama

Jalen Milroe should have been in the running for the Heisman Trophy or at least been given more credit as the true MVP, even though Jayden Daniels was the real MOP. I told you that at the end of last season.

I told you before the season that I thought Jalen Milroe would win the Heisman. I talked about it a lot during the off-season and never really moved on from it. When I did, it was mostly to draw attention to other choices.

threw for 374 yards, two touchdowns, and one pick on 27 of 33 attempts. He also ran 16 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Georgia 34 to Alabama 41.

Get that plane ticket to New York at the very least.
